Before anything else
Move out of live traffic if you can do so safely. Hazard lights on. Then answer these — each one just brings up the right number.
Is anyone unconscious, not breathing, or bleeding heavily?
If you are unsure, treat the answer as yes.
Is anyone injured, even if they say they are fine?
People walk away from crashes and collapse later.
Is a vehicle blocking traffic or in a dangerous position?
Is another vehicle or person involved?
Photographs are worth most in the first few minutes.
