Ghaziabad's air quality worsens, surpassing Delhi's pollution levels

caution

According to India Today, Ghaziabad's Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 516, significantly higher than Delhi's 456 on November 3. This alarming rise in pollution comes just days before Diwali, raising concerns about air quality in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The pollution in Ghaziabad is attributed to a mix of vehicle emissions, industrial activity, construction, road dust, and waste burning. The Commission for Air Quality Management has noted that local emissions, along with smoke from stubble burning in Punjab and Pakistan, contribute to the deteriorating air quality, which is expected to worsen with ongoing northwesterly winds.

This situation highlights the importance of being aware of air quality levels, especially for those living in and around Ghaziabad and Delhi. Residents should take precautions to protect their health as pollution levels rise, particularly during the festive season when additional pollution from firecrackers is expected.

What to do

  • Check the Air Quality Index regularly to stay informed about pollution levels in your area.
  • Limit outdoor activities, especially during times of high pollution, to reduce exposure to harmful air.
  • Use air purifiers indoors and keep windows closed on days with poor air quality.
  • Wear masks designed to filter out pollutants when going outside in heavily polluted areas.
  • Consider using public transport or carpooling to reduce vehicle emissions.
