Delhi to restrict 10 lakh vehicles to combat winter air pollution
According to The Federal, Delhi will implement strict vehicle restrictions from November 1 to January 31 to address winter air pollution. The Delhi Transport Department estimates that around 10 lakh vehicles entering and exiting the city daily will be impacted.
The restrictions will focus on vehicles not meeting Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission standards, aiming to reduce vehicular emissions that contribute nearly 40 percent of air pollution in the National Capital Region. Automatic number plate recognition cameras will be used to monitor compliance, and only vehicles with a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate will be allowed to purchase fuel.
This initiative is important for residents and commuters in Delhi and surrounding areas, as it aims to improve air quality during the winter months. People who drive older vehicles or those without a PUC certificate should pay close attention to these changes.
What to do
- Check if your vehicle meets BS6 emission standards to avoid restrictions.
- Ensure your vehicle has a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate.
- Plan your travel routes, especially if commuting from nearby NCR cities.
- Stay informed about the enforcement measures at Delhi's borders.
- Consider using public transport or carpooling to reduce vehicle usage.
