Safety update
Delhi's air quality worsens to severe levels on Diwali morning
caution
According to WION, Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 384 on Diwali morning, with 11 monitoring stations exceeding 400. This indicates a significant decline in air quality, just shy of the severe category.
The Central Pollution Control Board reported that the highest AQI reading was 450 in Punjabi Bagh. Despite measures under the Graded Response Action Plan, pollution levels have continued to rise, with the transport sector identified as a major contributor.
This situation highlights the ongoing air quality issues in Delhi, particularly during festive periods. Residents, especially vulnerable groups, should be aware of the health risks associated with poor air quality.
What to do
- Limit outdoor activities, especially for children and the elderly.
- Consider wearing N95 masks when going outside to reduce exposure to pollutants.
- Keep windows closed to prevent indoor air pollution from outside sources.
- Use air purifiers if available to improve indoor air quality.
- Stay informed about air quality updates and advisories.
