Delhi's air quality worsens, prompting new pollution control measures

caution

According to India Today, Delhi's air quality has dropped into the 'poor' category with an Air Quality Index of 216. This change comes as the city approaches the Dussehra and Diwali celebrations, leading the government to implement its Winter Pollution Plan.

The plan will be active from 1 November to 28 February and includes measures such as banning non-BS6 vehicles from outside Delhi, enforcing a 'no PUC, no fuel' rule, and using AI cameras to monitor pollution sources. Additionally, there will be a 50% work-from-home recommendation for government and private sectors, along with enhancements to public transport.

This situation highlights the importance of air quality awareness for residents in Delhi, especially during the winter months when pollution levels can rise significantly. People should stay informed about air quality updates and consider limiting outdoor activities when pollution is high.

What to do

  • Check the Air Quality Index regularly to stay informed about pollution levels in your area.
  • Limit outdoor activities, especially for children and those with respiratory issues, when air quality is poor.
  • Use public transport or carpool to reduce vehicular emissions during peak pollution times.
  • Consider wearing masks designed for pollution when going outside in poor air quality conditions.
  • Stay updated on government advisories regarding work-from-home recommendations and school operations.
