Delhi NCR faces high AQI, residents cite pollution causes

caution

According to India Today, air quality in Delhi NCR has worsened, with the AQI reaching 350. A survey reveals that many residents believe local sources contribute significantly to this pollution, particularly ahead of Diwali.

The survey, which gathered 20,761 responses, indicates that 79% of participants identified construction activity as a major pollution source. Other concerns include garbage burning, road dust, and stubble burning, with 64% citing both garbage burning and road dust as significant contributors.

This situation highlights the ongoing air quality challenges in Delhi NCR, which can affect the health of residents. Individuals should be aware of local pollution sources and take steps to minimize exposure, especially during high pollution days.

What to do

  • Limit outdoor activities when the AQI is high, especially for vulnerable groups like children and the elderly.
  • Use air purifiers indoors to reduce exposure to airborne pollutants.
  • Stay informed about local air quality reports and take precautions as needed.
  • Avoid burning waste and encourage proper waste disposal practices in your community.
  • Support local initiatives aimed at reducing pollution from construction and other sources.
