24 Indian cities among world's most polluted, AQI above 300

caution

According to India Today, 24 cities in India recorded air quality index (AQI) readings above 300 on Wednesday morning, making them the most polluted in the world. This situation highlights the increasing pollution levels in northern India as the winter season begins.

Agra topped the list with an AQI of 363, followed closely by Sri Ganganagar at 362 and Firozabad at 360. Delhi's AQI was recorded at 338, ranking it 12th. The Central Pollution Control Board categorizes AQI readings above 300 as 'Very Poor', with prolonged exposure potentially leading to respiratory issues.

This information is important for residents in affected areas, as high AQI levels can pose health risks, especially for those with pre-existing conditions. Awareness of air quality can help individuals take necessary precautions to protect their health.

What to do

  • Check daily air quality reports to stay informed about pollution levels in your area.
  • Limit outdoor activities, especially during times of high pollution, to reduce exposure.
  • Use air purifiers indoors to improve air quality where possible.
  • Wear masks designed for pollution when going outside in heavily polluted areas.
  • Consider using public transportation or carpooling to reduce vehicle emissions.
